SUJUVA — Accessibility guidelines for stations and public spaces
SUJUVA is a visualised compilation of accessibility regulations, guidelines and recommendations for planning and design. The website brings together accessibility regulations and guidance relating to station environments, excluding guidance for platform areas. SUJUVA also includes national accessibility regulations and guidelines for roads, streets, squares and public spaces. Additional guidance applies to plots and buildings intended for public use. For these types of environments, SUJUVA presents the regulations and recommendations that are relevant to station areas.
SUJUVA serves designers, clients and maintenance providers. The website supports the selection of accessible design solutions and helps users verify the accessibility of plans, thereby reducing the need for modifications at a later stage. It also assists in maintaining the accessibility of existing environments. The information compiled on the SUJUVA website can be used in the design of new facilities and in renovation and improvement projects.
SUJUVA is designed to improve accessibility, particularly at the interfaces between different planning and ownership areas. Accessible infrastructure naturally guides all users and supports smooth and independent movement.
SUJUVA is currently available in Finnish only. The visualised accessibility flashcards can be accessed through the navigation menu at the top of the website. Flashcards can also be found using the site’s search function. The accessibility flashcards compile regulations and recommendations from various sources. The sources used and detailed instructions on how to apply them can be found on the page lähteet.
SUJUVA is maintained by WSP Finland Ltd in cooperation with the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, the cities of Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa, and Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd.
